If you’re looking for a place to unwind on a Saturday night in Powai, Lord of the Drinks is one of those venues that naturally makes it to the shortlist. With its spacious interiors, lively crowd, and extensive food and drinks menu, it promises the kind of evening that’s perfect for catching up with friends or celebrating a special occasion. While our experience wasn’t flawless, there was certainly plenty to enjoy.
The ambience strikes a nice balance between upscale and casual. The lighting is warm, the seating is comfortable, and despite the weekend rush, the restaurant manages to maintain an inviting atmosphere. By around 9 PM, the place was buzzing with groups of friends, couples, and families enjoying their weekend. Service throughout the evening remained prompt, with staff ensuring orders arrived without long waits despite the packed house.
Food turned out to be the highlight of our visit. We started with the Mutton Seekh Kebabs, which were juicy, flavourful, and well-seasoned without being overly spicy. The Chicken Tikka followed closely behind, delivering tender pieces of chicken with a smoky char that worked perfectly as a classic starter. Even something as simple as the French Fries was done well—crispy on the outside, fluffy inside, and an ideal companion while waiting for the mains.
For the main course, we opted for the Aglio e Olio Spaghetti. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente, with garlic and olive oil creating a light yet satisfying dish. It wasn’t overloaded with ingredients, allowing the simplicity of the recipe to shine through. If you’re in the mood for something that’s comforting without being too heavy, it’s a solid choice.
The drinks, however, were a bit of a mixed bag. We ordered a Long Island Iced Tea and a Whiskey Sour with Egg, expecting bold flavours that matched their reputation. Unfortunately, both cocktails felt surprisingly muted. The balance of flavours seemed off, making them less memorable than we’d hoped. Rather than trying another cocktail, we switched to regular Hoegaarden beer cans, which proved to be a much safer and more enjoyable option for the rest of the evening.
One aspect that could definitely use improvement is the music. For a Saturday night, the expectation is usually a playlist that keeps the energy high and appeals to a broad audience. Instead, the DJ stuck almost entirely to ’90s Bollywood tracks throughout the evening. While nostalgic music certainly has its fans, playing it almost exclusively can make the atmosphere feel repetitive, especially for younger crowds expecting a more dynamic mix of contemporary hits, international tracks, and dance music. A more balanced playlist would go a long way in enhancing the nightlife experience.
Our final bill came to roughly ₹6,000 for the meal and drinks, which feels fairly reasonable considering the location, quality of food, and weekend dining experience. While the cocktails didn’t quite justify their price, the excellent starters, satisfying pasta, and overall ambience helped balance the experience.
Overall, Lord of the Drinks Powai delivers where it matters most—good food, attentive service, and a pleasant ambience. If you’re visiting primarily for the food and don’t mind sticking to beer or simpler drinks, it’s a venue worth checking out. However, those looking for a high-energy Saturday night with upbeat music and standout cocktails may find themselves wanting a little more. We’d happily return for the kebabs and the atmosphere, but we’d also hope for a refreshed playlist and better-crafted cocktails the next time around.
